Background Martha is 23 and the middle of three children. She has a sister Trish (24) and a brother Leo (21). Her parents are divorced and she tends to play peacemaker between the rest of the family members. Before she met the Doctor she was quite happily studying to become a doctor herself. Initially she didn't want to travel with him due to her studies, but as he proved to her that he could travel in both time and space she agreed. The Doctor however claimed that it would only be for one trip, something which Martha wasn't exact happy about.
Personality - She is a feisty and stubborn woman, unafraid of challenging the Doctor and asking him questions that she knows he doesn’t want asking, because she needs to know. At home however she is the peace maker of the family, particularly between her mother and father and his new girlfriend. She’s seen as the responsible one of the three children, the one that has always known exactly what she wanted to do and worked to achieve that, generally at the detriment to any kind of social life. The Doctor coming into her life however has challenged these beliefs, something which has made her mother wary of him, putting her in the middle. Martha has an unwavering faith in the Doctor and has done since very early on, even in what seems to be the most dire situations she still holds on to the belief that everything will turn out okay, because he knows what he’s doing. She’s aware of how crazy this is though and finds it difficult to explain. While not exactly his equal Martha has proved herself to be a match for the Doctor, helping to save him life almost as many times as he’s saved hers. She’s also proved herself to be very smart and keen to learn and experience new things.
